Fraction Games and Strategies

This workshop can be a standalone session for grade 3 – 6 teachers. In this workshop, participants will play games and learn strategies that use cards, dice, number lines, and other common fraction manipulatives to help teach the following fraction concepts:

• Equivalency
• Common denominators
• Decimals
• Percent
• Operations with fractions
• And more
   

Games will incorporate the use of engaging manipulatives that help students gain deep understanding of fraction concepts and will be tied to strategies that help students move from a concrete understanding to abstract levels. We will also share lesson plans and teaching sequences. Game-boards will be provided, along with assessment skill checklists and math journal extensions.
